CommentLocated on the southeast side of West Main Road directly opposite the road leading to the Bay View Estates and just west of the Lawton Valley Reservoir. This is a little southwest of Ratheon. There is an access road south of the cemetery that can be used to get to the cemetery. This lot was recorded in 1892 by George H. Richardson (GHR) in the Richardson Scrapbook 974 at NHS, p. 42, and again around 1900 by the anonymous author (ANON) of "Rhode Island Tombstone Inscriptions," at RIHS. ANON described the location as the "Dr. Howe farm, now owned by the Norman family…West Main Road." He found 19 inscriptions. It was also transcribed by Patricia Bodine for CETA 22 Sept. 1975. She also found two other areas north of the cemetery that were surrounded by stone walls and appeared to be burial grounds with fieldstones and unmarked graves. 13 stones in a picnic area were recorded 1989 (Ian Kohl, IK). John Sterling and Cherry Bamberg recorded this burial ground 14 Apr. 1998 (JES). Although the picnic area was abandoned and overgrown, the 18th century stones from the Stevens shop were still in good condition. No sign of another lot was visible. Best access is from an unmarked loop of road that passes the water works. A rough path leads west from telephone poles on the ground perhaps 75' to the lot. It was cleared in 2012.
