CommentThis cemetery is located 15 feet north of Union Street at pole #63. From the geographical information this is the lot that the resurvey of 1970 called "No Name: (Very Old)," and renumbered #39 while leaving it also as #18. The report ordered that no sign be erected. Around 1900 8 stones on what was then the Peleg Thurston farm were transcribed by the anonymous author of "Rhode Island Tombstone Inscriptions" (ANON) at RIHS. In 1975 on the Oak Glen Farm, this cemetery was recorded by Patricia Bodine for CETA 20 Sept. of that year and again by John Sterling (JES) in 1996. For genealogical information on this family see Elva Lawton's "George Lawton of Portsmouth, Rhode Island," 1977, typescript at NEHGS in Boston. Recorded by Ian Kohl (IK) 1989. Very heavily treed 1998, apparently neglected. Barb Austin visited this cemetery in 2007 and found large fallen trees were cut up and removed while the smaller branches were still there.
