CommentThis cemetery is located 30 feet west of Evergreen Drive on the front lawn of #90 Evergreen Drive. One of two FISH cemeteries in Portsmouth. Eight stones for individuals with the surname FISH, transcribed first by ANON in "Rhode Island Tombstone Inscriptions," circa 1900 at RIHS, then by the Benns in the 1930s (their #474), and then by Patricia Bodine for CETA 27 Oct. 1975. The 1970 descriptions in the resurvey and in Ian Kohl's record from 1989 do not agree at all with the data above, clearly apply to PO039, another FISH burial ground. As of 1998, the lot was in reasonable condition, if heavily treed, in the front yard of a house, but the stones had apparently been used for target practice. Most of them had circular holes 3" in diameter in the top third. On some stones this hole destroyed the given name, on others it broke off the top, and on one it broke the stone in pieces. All stones are small and unornamented by carving. Stubs of three or four stones are present.
