CommentOn east side of Post Road north of Cocumsccussoc or Smith Castle. The land on which these two adjacent lots (Ayrault-Updike Lot on southerly side, Congdon Lot on northerly side) is located was originally part of Cocumscussoc but is now privately owned. Drive to the end of Richard Smith Drive and the cemetery is 100 feet north of here. Arnold recorded these yards on 1 May 1881, his #94. The Updike lot was fenced with granite posts and iron rods, The Congdon lot in prime order, wall doubly faced, both extant today. On the same day he noted, his #96, a lot on the plain to the north, an extensive burial yard of the colored servants of the familes buried in the two other cemeteries. 72 large and 8 small graves with rude stones. Only one marked grave was found. No trace of this colored cemetery was found in 1989. Recorded by Althea McAleer, Beatrix Hoffius, and Deby Nunes for a 1992 book on North Kingstown cemeteries.
