Located aside Broad Street opposite Narragansett Street and just east of Roger Williams Park. It is 6 acres. George N. Briggs purchased land from Elizabeth Jenkes in 1847 and formed the cemetery corporation the next year. In 1927 a granite mausoleum was built to accommodate 1200 burials. In the south central part of this cemetery is a collection of eighteenth century slate, sandstone and marble gravestones moved from the West Burial Ground (PV019) in Providence in 1870. In 1870 the Benevolent Congregational Society of Providence purchased a plot 60 ft. by 100 ft. in the Oakland Cemetery in Cranston and moved a number of burials from its cemetery in the West Burial Ground. Only a few (195) of the older gravestones have been recorded so far.
