"5th RI Heavy Artillery" Statue and Monument: Henry Tillinghast Sisson 1831-1910 "Colonel of the fifth Rhode Island Artillery regiment. Lieutennant Governor of Rhode Island." "In appreciation of the valor of Colonel Sisson and the fifth Rhode Island regiment, in going voluntarily April 13, 1863 to the relief of Major General John G. Foster and the 27th and 44th Mass regiments, then beseiged by overwhelming forces at Washington, North Carolina, this Commonwealth of Massachusetts joins the state of Rhode Island in erecting this monument to their heroic and successful devotion. AD 1917"
