Comment | The David Bennett Lot is located 1400 ft south of Cowessett Road across from Hardig Road, and west of Interstate #95. It will soon be on Lot 11 on Princeton Avenue, 200 ft west of the power line easement. It is 65 ft x 85 ft, in good condition, enclosed by a stone wall. It contains 10 burials with three inscribed stones and seven fieldstones. It is on the tax assessor’s map, Plat #231, Lot #7.
James Arnold visited this lot 17 Sept. 1893 and noted, “on the farm east of the Remington farm (owned by Dr. Carr) and a short distance from these two burial yards [WK083/WK085] on that farm yard walled in good condition” (Vol. 2, p. 445). Arnold also noted that “near the old barn on this farm in southwest direction in open field are two graves, that of a Mr. Arnold and his wife who once owned the property. Close by are several graves marked with rude stones which are supposed to be those of colored people.”
Found, registered and recorded by John Sterling for a book on Warwick cemeteries. |
