CommentTranscribed by James N Arnold August 25, 1919 (Vol 25, pp102-3). He describes location as follows: "At the Mowry Four corners on the Putnam Ave North West in open lot, is a small yard, lot fenced granite posts and iron rails, yard in fair condition." Along with Arnold's transcription are two stones added by Grace G Tillinghast. Transcribed by Ethel M White Jan 28, 1940. She gives description as "Mowry Burial Ground - in field, fenced with iron rails. Cor junction - Cedar Swamp Road and Putnam Ave. Opposite Roseland." Transcribed by Ron Farrar who described it as N W of Mowry's Corner. This cemetery was removed to Highland Memorial Park, Johnston, RI (JN008), in the early 1970's. It originally was located on Putnam Pike (Route 44) at NEL #129. It would have been located adjacent to a Benny's store. The reason for the relocation was for the construction of a business, but this never occured. In 1998, the land is still undeveloped. Cemetery records indicate that the remains of 13 of the original 17 bodies were interred in the "Acacia" section, Lot #21A & #22. The original stones were not moved to Highland, and only 4 names appear on 2 bronze placques. It's not possible to determine what happened to the other 4 bodies. The one mystery about this relocation is that all cemetery records indicate that the re-internment took place on March 18, 1954 for all thirteen bodies. This would be about twenty years before all accounts say the bodies were moved. This cemetery was transcribed by Roger Beaudry on November 14, 1998.
