CommentVisited by James N Arnold on Oct 11, 1919, it is recorded in his work in Volume 25, pages 356-358. He describes it as: On the Appleby farm at Stillwater east of the river, beside the road. Here are two lots, the oldest not protected although in fair order, the following yard is fenced with granite posts, in fine order." Arnold also states at the end of his description that: "We are told that a Smith family owned and lived on these premises before the Appleby Family and that many of these fieldstone are Smith grave markers." Transcribed by Ethel M White who describes this lot as: "On land owned by Miss Maria Appleby who lives in the house owned by her ancestor Elisha Smith 1726 purchased from Thomas Field." At the end of her transcription she writes, "Outside the Appleby Cemetery there are several graves marked with rude field stones without inscriptions - (said to be Smiths)." H B Smith also transcribed one stone in 1935 (Vol 25 page 358). near Georgiaville Reservoir at a place called "Carey's love nest" Recorded by Charles & Martha Benns between 1931-1935. It is listed in Volume III, page 314, and given the number of 338. They describe lot as "Appleby Family, Smithfield" Transcribed by Ron Farrar who described lot as "Stillwater Road" Transcribed by Roger Beaudry February 16, 1997. Lot is made up of two burial grounds The main lot is 20' x 40' surrounded by granite posts. The second area (Lot A) to the west is an open approximately 55' x 35'. This contains all fieldstone markers except for 1.
