SK A21 – INDIAN BURIAL YARD Date of Arnold’s visit: Oct. 11, 1880 His number: #159 Arnold’s comments: “In the woods southwest of D. E. Tefft’s house numerous graves covered with timber said to be an Indian burial yard, graves impossible to count owing to their irregularity. Vandal hands have dug into these graves and have carried away tokens thereby proving them Indian yards. Mr. Thomas D. Tucker says these burials covered a space of 100 acres and is by far the largest Indian burial ground in the country.” Our comments: The 1857 Walling map of South Kingstown shows this burial ground east of Cedar Swamp Pond almost to Post Road. Formerly known as SK 701.
