CommentThis cemetery has not been found Date of Arnold’s visit: Feb. 26, 1880 His number: #30 Arnold’s comments: “old Sherman burial grounds on plain north west a short distance from Barber’s Pond. The northwest yard contains 4 youths from 4-18 years of age. No doubt the plow has obliterated many as the lot is entirely unprotected.” Of the second he wrote: “The larger yard contains 11 full and 2 small graves. As these lots are in open plain and entirely unprotected no doubt the plow here has destroyed many of the graves. One of these marked “M. S. 98” we understand to be that of Martha Sherman who died a very aged person. Mark is correct.” Our comments: Right after visiting this lot—to judge by the evidence of the Visitation manuscript—Arnold recorded the Perry Green Underwood lot, SK 132, north of Hundred Acre Pond on the land owned by Benjamin Watson. This farm shows on the 1890 Evert and Richards map on Wolf Rocks Road, north east of Mount Pleasant. Formerly known as SK 507.
