CommentLocated 1220 feet east of Matunuck Beach Road and 1900 feet south of Route #1. It is 800 feet west of Fresh Pond. James Arnold lot #181, 15 Oct, 1880. "on land of Jeremiah B Hazard, west of his house in corner of lot partly protected." DAR 1934: On the Matunuck farm, which is to the left of the drift road running from the Post Road to Matunuck Beach, there is a Hassard plot in the corner of intersecting stone walls, and in very bad condition In the manuscript "I Remember" by James E. Perry, Sr [1899-1972] there is a map of this area showing a graveyard on the back of the Matlock Lot against the swamp. This is probably the Jeremiah B. Hazard Lot. On the 1857 Wallings map Jeremiah B. Hazard is shown as owning this land. Both Ralph Browning [1927- ] and his brother Harold Browning Jr. [1924- ] tell the story that Gilbert "Gib" Carpenter [1907-1999] grew corn on this lot for many years and told them that he had removed gravestones from that lot and plowed the land. He claimed he didn't plow deep enough to disturb any burials. The where abouts of these gravestones remains unknown.
