This cemetery is located about three thousand feet south of Liberty Lane in the Great Swamp Wildlife Refuge, six hundred feet past the rifle range parking lot on east side of the trail. It is 35 feet x 30 feet, in good condition, enclosed with a stone wall. There is no historical cemetery sign. It contains three fieldstone-marked burials. This is the original site of the John Brown burial ground. Arnold recorded this lot Nov. 19, 1880, numbering it #255 and commenting “on land of the late John Brown in Great Neck a burial yard as follows. Fenced only.” The 1870 Beers Atlas shows this area to be the John Brown farm. There is a replacement granite stone in sect J of Riverside Cemetery, SK043, for the two stones found here by Arnold in 1880.
