CommentThis cemetery is located two hundred feet south of Torrey Road at telephone pole #5, behind the house at #228 Torrey Road. It is 35 feet square, in fair condition, enclosed with a stone wall, and there is no historical cemetery sign. There are nine burials with six inscribed fieldstones and three uninscribed fieldstones. James N. Arnold recorded this yard Apr. 14, 1880, his #86, “a few rods east of the old Congregational Church yard at Tower Hill [SK 26] is a small burial yard of the Hull family, lot walled in good condition, lot in poor order.” “Three children’s graves at feet of these [Joseph, 1885 and Susan, 1821] the center one marked ‘children of J and S Hull.’ ” These stones have been read differently by various recorders over the years, so we used special care to transcribe them. After digging out each stone, reflecting sunlight across them with a mirror, and photographing them, we are quite certain that this transcript is correct. The Mary Hull stone, we are told by the property owner, is outside the west wall. We could not locate it in the tangle of grapevines and brush that has grown up in this cemetery. Found, registered, and recorded by John Sterling & James Wheaton for a 2004 book on South Kingstown cemeteries.
