Comment | Located 1,900 feet west of Ministerial Road on the grounds of Camp Hoffman, the Girl Scout camp on Larkin Pond. It is along a north-south trail on the west side of a pine grove. It is thirty by twenty feet, in poor condition, with no enclosure. It contains fourteen burials with six inscribed stones and eight fieldstones. Since the cemetery is located in a Girl Scout camp, permission is required to enter the property, no matter how intense the longing of the genealogist or historian to see the gravestones. During the summer months when the camp is occupied, entry is not allowed at all. In the winter permission can be granted by Girl Scout headquarters.
James N. Arnold recorded this cemetery Feb. 24, 1880, his #13, “in open lot unprotected, northwest from farm house east side of Chipuxet River and wood land.”
Found, registered, and recorded by John Sterling & James Wheaton for a 2004 book on South Kingstown cemeteries. |
