Comment | This cemetery is located 450 feet northeast of Camp Fuller Road (YMCA camp at the end of the road) at telephone pole #13 / 3976. Cross the field to the stone wall on the east side, and look for the wall going east from this wall. The burial ground is in the southeast corner of this intersection. In 2001 this yard was covered with a tangle of brush, bittersweet, blackberries, and briars. There is a stone wall on the north and west boundary. The burial ground is sixty feet square, in fair condition, enclosed with a stone wall (north and west), and the historical cemetery sign is missing. There are 41 burials with 28 inscribed stones and thirteen fieldstones.
James N. Arnold recorded this lot Oct. 18, 1880, his #196, “on land of Bradford Eldred a burial yard of his family in grand order.” This cemetery, “in grand order” in 1880, was heavily overgrown and neglected in 2001.
Recorded by John Sterling and James Wheaton for a 2004 book on South Kingstown cemeteries. |
