CommentThis cemetery is located 1,100 feet south of Curtis Corner Road on Rockwood Lane on the east side southeast of SK034 on a hill. Follow Rockwood Lane to the end, and as you go through the last gate turn left into the pasture and follow the tractor ruts to the east. The cemetery is to the right on a small hill just before the stone wall marking the next pasture. It is 25 feet x 20 feet, in fair condition, with no enclosure, and the historical cemetery sign is missing. There are about 25 burials, all marked by fieldstones. James N. Arnold visited this lot Oct. 6, 1880, his #125, “a short distance south of the next yard [SK33] here recorded is a grave marked with a rude stone that of Lucinda Carr.” This cemetery is called the Bates lot in the state historical cemeteries registration list, but it was not called Bates by Arnold. Recorded by John Sterling and James Wheaton for a 2004 book on South Kingstown cemeteries.
