CommentThis cemetery is located fifteen feet east of Allens Avenue at telephone pole #588, at the junction of South Road and Allens Avenue. It is 150 feet x 60 feet, in good condition, enclosed with a stone wall with a missing gate. The historical cemetery sign is in good condition. There are fifty burials with sixteen inscribed stones and 34 fieldstones. James N. Arnold visited this yard Oct. 20, 1880, his #203, “opposite the colored church at Curtis Corner a burial yard, walled, surrounded by evergreens.” Arnold counted sixteen adult and eighteen children’s graves marked with “rude stones” [fieldstones]. Gravestones #2, #12, #15, and #18 all predate James N. Arnold’s visit in 1880 but were not recorded by him, so it is likely they were erected after that date. Recorded by John Sterling and James Wheaton for a 2004 book on South Kingstown cemeteries.
