CommentLocated just northeast of #69 Thornton at the end of Thornton Street. We are told there was a large monument in this cemetery over 50 years ago. A neighbor used to tie his horse to the monument. It has been gone at least since 1944. Benns #148 This cemetery was in Johnston until 1898 when this area was annexed to Providence. 101) Recorded by James N. Arnold – March 29, 1891. (Johnston, Bk. 3, pg. 5) (PV012) (At end of Thornton St., off Killingly St., in Providence. Still in place, until 1898 it was in Johnston). “The Thornton burial lot near the Greek Tavern, so called on the top of a small hill a burial yard. Lot overgrown with briars and locusts much neglected.”
