The old churchyard surrounds St. Mary's Church with a major section to the north and newer sections to the west. This cemetery is still active, and and is available for additional expansion. Only two inscriptions were copied by GHR in 1892 (Richardson Scrapbook 974 at NHS, p. 57) and ANON, "Rhode Island Tombstone Inscriptions," circa 1900 at RIHS. Richardson's sketch shows these two marked stones with a dozen unmarked ones against a stone wall to the south of the parsonage, not the present location of the cemetery. They may be remnants of an earlier burial ground. Recording by church members has been underway for several years (as of 1998) under the direction of Eugene Baer (phone: 401/841-5065).
