Located 15 feet southeast of West Main Road at the Portsmouth/Middletown line opposite the enterance to Prescott Point. It is adjacent to the original Prescott Farms, not the site on West Main Road to which the house has been moved. It is directly across West Main Road from Preston Estates just north of the Middletown line. Transcribed by George H. Richardson (GHR) in Oct. 1892, "Rhode Island Tombstone Inscriptions " (ANON) circa 1900 at RIHS, Patricia Bodine (CETA) 21 Sept. 1975, MS, Ian Kohl (IK) in 1989, and finally John E. Sterling (JES) in 1996. Richardson described the location as "Overing Place where Prescott was captured" (Richardson Scrapbook 974 at Newport Historical Society, p. 42). ANON described the location as "on the General Prescott place now owned by Joseph Chase estate."
