CommentLocated 20 feet west of Scrabbletown Road, directly behind Buttons and Bows Early Learning Center (2013) (was a restaurant in 1990), opposite pole 5. Entrance up an embankment, is marked by two granite posts, one marked "1820." This is a large lot, surrounded by a stone wall. It is unkempt, littered, covered with brush and vines. Vandalized. James Arnold recorded this lot March 26, 1880, his #33, "On land belonging to the heirs of the late Isaac Hall, beside public road a short distance northeast of his house is an ancient burial ground of the Brown family. From notes we learn. In this lot is buried Beriah Brown, the first settler of this tract. His grave is in the soutwest corner, and is a square tomb raised and covered with flat stones with no inscription. His descendents are buried in a row parellel [sic] with his running north. He came from England and settled here the latter part of the 17th century. He perfected his title May 27, 1709, after R.I. and Conn. Had settled their dispute in regard to territory. Was born in England about 1640, emigrated here about 1670, died about the time of the great snowstorm of Feb. 20, 1717." Arnold appears to have gained access to a family bible or some other unknown source, as he identifies several unmarked fieldstone. Recorded by Althea McAleer, Beatrix Hoffius, and Deby Nunes for a 1992 book on North Kingstown cemeteries.
