CommentShermantown Rd, in yard of #240. Lot is approached via drive at left of house. After passing a second house, lot lies in field to the left opposite six foot stump of a utility pole and is completely overrun with long grass. No enclosure, no sign of vandalism. Arnold remarked on survey, 20 Feb 1880 that he had counted 80 graves, 20 of which he took to be children marked by rude stones only. We were only able to locate a few old stones. Arnold placed this lot "in the field of the old home of Benoni(3) & James(2) Sweet. Recorded Feb. 20, 1880 by James Arnold, his #2, "about 30 rods from Pinder Zekor corner south west in open lot in very poor condition and without any protection….this is called the old Sweet burial ground. Some of the stones were removed from their former resting places." Recorded by Althea McAleer, Beatrix Hoffius, and Deby Nunes for a 1992 book on North Kingstown cemeteries.
