CommentThis cemetery no longer exists. It was destroyed between 1933 and 1960. It was located at the northwest corner of the house lot #2418 Plainfield Pike 1500 feet west of Pippen Orchard Road. Robert Larrivee purchased that property in 1955. The cemetery was destroyed just before or just after he built his house. In 1996 members of the Johnston Historical Society interviewed Mr. Larrivee for a book project. During the interview he did mention that there was a cemetery on his property or the adjacent property. He also stated that there were gravestone fragments in the woods behind his property. In tracing the deed back for this property there are several mentions of a burying ground of three rods square [about 50 ft. x 50 ft.], and rights to access the burying ground "in the northwesterly corner of the parcel." James N. Arnold recorded this lot his #78) – May 24, 1891. (Bk. 2, pg. 21 "On the Olney Angell farm and opposite the farm house beside the Plainfield turnpike yard well care (sic) for although not very well protected.” Grace G Tillinghast recorded this burial ground in 1930 for the James Arnold collection: "Plainfield Pike, lefthand side of road 4/10 mi from Thornton, near mailbox of Lewis F. Greene." Charles & Martha Benns recorded this lot in 1933 their #198 described as on "Plainfield Pike, Cranston" See Thomas Angell genealogy pg. 57: "Abel Angell was a blacksmith in South Scituate near the Angell tavern…. Just east of this house in an orchard planted by his father, a burying ground was established. In this lot were about thirty graves of his relatives -- that of his sister Amey and her daughter Amey, and many others. When this property was sold a few years ago by Richard, son of Abel, no reserve was made of this burial ground. The gravestones have been built into the wall and the ground plowed. Richard commenced a burying place on the opposite side of the road where Abel, his father, was buried and some of his own children. This cemetery was assigned the temporary number JN522 before it was registered and identified as JN115.
