CommentThis cemetery could not be found by members of the Johnston Historical Society in 2015. It was recorded by Grace Tillinghast in the Arnold collection in 1930. The historical cemetery registration list dated 22 Oct. 1967 states "Off lane beside 124 Simmonsville Ave. on hill in middle of dump. Very poor condition." There is a fifteen foot drop off around JN058 where gravel was removed possibly during the building of I-295 about 1970. This cemetery was adjacent to JN058. Follow Green Earth Way south to the cul de sac at the end next to the Fed Ex Ground plant. Follow the service road leading south from here for a little over one quarter mile to a small pond. The cemetery is northeast of this pond about 100 feet. James Arnold recorded his #83 – May 31, 1891. (Bk. 2, pg. 298) (JN058/JN090). β€œTo the west of the upper village and near the dam of the lower reservoir lot well but much overrun with brush and without the wall in open field not protected. Section I not protected.” The lot is broken up by Arnold into two sections. Adjoining Randall lot near reservoir - GGT 1932 Arnold records July 12, 1932, page 40: "Old Simmonsville, adjoining the Randall lot near reservoir." We were told by a man, who as a boy saw this, that in the 1950s when the DOT was widening Simmonsville Ave. that they mined gravel next to JN058. This area included this cemetery, JN090, which was at the northeast corner of JN058. As they dumped the gravel at the construction site human remains were found. There is a gravestone in Mineral Springs Cemetery for Charles Warburton son of Charles and Celia who died in 1833.
