CommentThese are gravestones that are stored in a storage building at the veteran's cemetery in Exeter. They come from various places when gravestones were found displaced and held until their proper place could be determined. Before 1990 a number of gravestones removed from the Newport Common Burial Ground were stored here. Ed Connelly who was director of the Veteran's Cemetery and also in charge of historical cemeteries removed fallen and damaged gravestones from Newport and stored them here until they could be repaired and reset. In 1996, six years after Ed retired, John Sterling arranged to have these stones returned to Newport and reset in their proper locations.
