Commenttranscribed by James Arnold 23 Mar 1880 (his #27). "A short distance north of the old house on land now belonging to James W Bates is a colored burial yard, graves have no protection and marked with rude stones only. In this yard are buried two well known old darkies, servants formerly of Squire Nicholas Gardner who gave them a horse after his decease."
