"CATHERINE DE CARDIGNAN HUNTER, wife of JOHN GREENWAY of MonteVideo South America, merchant, born at Newport 27 March 1824, married at Rio Janeiro 14 December 1841 where her father was then minister plenipotentiary of the United States, died in Monte-Video 16 April 1846 after giving birth to a son" Bergman recorded a different inscription in 1900, possibly an earlier stone "of her whose death he so deeply deplores her bereaved husband brought her remains from that distant land to this her birth-place."
