Notes"HEAR LYETH Ye BODY OF MARY SAYLES WIFE OF JOHN SAYLES WHO DIED IN Ye YEAR 1681 AGED 45 YEARS" There is a picture of the original stone taken before 1940 in a bound manuscript at the RI Historical Society entitled Baker-Cranston by R. W. Baker (CS71-B17-1940The picture shown here is a replacement stone commissioned by the DAR. [mother of Mary (Sayles) Green Holmes, W/O William Green and later John Holmes] This stone was severly broken by vandals removing it from the pedestal in about 1990. The pieces have since been lost. The Roger Williams Assoc comissioned a replacement stone about 1995. The pieces were collected by the nearby home owner and placed in a paper bag in her garage for later repair. She thinks someone placed the bag in the trash.
