| Carver | JOHN STEVENS I |
| Notes/Misc Details | |
| Notes | The first digit of her age is very difficult to read but could be a 5. John Stevens I carved the effigy and did the lettering for Martha Newton between 1715, her death, and 1718. He turned the shop over to his son John II in 1724 when he retired from carving. John II was called upon to add Sarah's epitaph at some time after 1724, probably not right away. Here Lyeth inter'd / the Body of Martha / Newton the wife of / Cap't Thomas Newton / who departed this life / in the 36 th year of her / age Novem'br ye 27 1715 |
