Commentfrom inscription on Joshua Ashton monument in North Burial Ground: "A lot of land was set apart for a burial place in the south part of the town of Providence for his (Joshua Ashton) blood kindred the same having ceased to be used for the original purpose and having become a compact part of the city. His remains with 57 others were removed to this spot by the direction of the Hon Municipal Court of the city of Providence 1848."
