Comment | The Col. Joseph Rice Lot is located 10 feet west of Greenhouse Road, 500 feet from the junction with Newport Road. We are told there had been members of the Nicholas family buried here, but that they were moved to Hopkins Hollow Cemetery (Coventry Historical Cemetery #12). It is 35 ft x 35 ft, in good condition, and enclosed with a stone wall. The historic cemetery sign is missing. There are eight burials with three inscribed stones. It is on the tax assessor’s map, map #307, Lot #8.
James N. Arnold visited on 10 Aug. 10 1905 and noted, “On the Col. Rice farm beside road, south of the school house at Nicholas District, lot walled, yard in neglected condition, wall good” (Vol. 6, Book B, page 1174).
Charles and Martha Benns visited this lot in 1940, their #865.Recorded by Dr. Bill Eddleman and John Sterling for a 1998 book |
